PGMA, Tarzan shell out P5-M for skills training

    ANGELES CITY – First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin has launched his skills training program to help generate more high-paying jobs for his constituents.

    Lazatin disclosed yesterday that he and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had allotted P5 million for the “training for work program” benefiting some 700 residents of this city, Magalang and Mabalacat. He added that the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) had assisted them in their project.

    “We have to help them get proper training for a better future. Teach them to fish so that they will be self-producing,” he said.

    IC Calaguas, chief of staff of Lazatin, said the funding came from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of the first-term solon. She added that Arroyo had given P3.5 million to complete the funding.

    Lazatin thanked Arroyo for her assistance in creating more opportunities for the people.
    Calaguas said the training at the Metro Clark Plaza Hotel here which started last November 5 is still on-going. She represented Lazatin during the project’s recent launching at the St. Mary’s Angels College in Mexico town, Pampanga.

    According to Lazatin’s office, the number of scholars undertaking training is broken down as follows: 300, on food and beverage; 300, on housekeeping for hotels; 10  butchers; six, welders; and 30, call center agents.

    Lazatin said the program is still open to interested residents of the first district. He added that all applicants  just have to go his office for assistance.
