PGMA ensures food security in Pampanga

    LUBAO, Pamp. – Mobbed by her townmates here, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday inspected the progress of work on irrigation systems and other infrastructure projects in Barangay Concepcion.

    Arroyo was with Agriculture Sec. Arthur Yap who joined farmers in planting rice in Concepcion.

    Yap and Angelito Miguel, Pampanga Manager of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) briefed Arroyo on the developments related to food production in Central Luzon and irrigation developments in Pampanga.

    The President vowed to rehabilitate the Porac-Gumain irrigation system which deteriorated over the years. The said irrigation system serves 15 villages in this town and five others in nearby Floridablanca.

    Arroyo also talked with farmers and local folk after joining mayors and government officials in a lunch prepared by the family of former senior board member Lilia Pineda, a native of Concepcion. 

    Among those who welcomed the president were Angeles City Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda, Sasmuan Mayor Nardo Velasco, Floridablanca Mayor Eddie Guerrero, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Deputy Secretary General Pastor Guiao and Councilor Jay Sangil of Angeles City.

    After her visit in Lubao, Arroyo went o the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) office in the City of San Fernando to launch an irrigation system. She then proceeded to the food processing plant of Pampanga’s Best in Barangay De La Paz in the city of San Fernando.
