CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “We have been given the runaround as usual. Absolutely no sincerity on the part of the environment office.”

Thus said the Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM) as it assailed the regional Environment Management Bureau (EMB) for “doing nothing” more than one week after creating a monitoring team to address the complaint against piggeries and poultries based in Angeles City and Porac.

PGKM Chairman Ruperto “Perto” Cruz said EMB regional director Lormelyn Claudio “is just like the former EMB chiefs who are useless and do nothing to stop the deadly pollution.”

Claudio asked Cruz to give her office two weeks to show results during a meeting with three mayors – Edgardo Pamintuan of Angeles City, Oscar Rodriguez of this city and Condralito De La Cruz of Porac – last September 7.

Sonny Dobles, representative of the PGKM for the task force, disclosed yesterday that the EMB has not called him yet.

“How can they be true as they haven’t even called members of the monitoring team more than a week considering they are asking for two weeks?” Cruz said.

The PGKM, EMB and one representative of each of the mayors are members of the joint monitoring team.

“We are against the monitoring team in the first place. But we gave them a change and as usual, they bungled the opportunity big-time,” added Cruz.

De La Cruz granted a permit to rally as the PGKM set the protest action against piggeries and poultries on Sept. 22.  The PGKM has been in the forefront of the battle against at least 14 prominent piggeries in Barangays Manibaug Paralaya and Sta. Cruz, Porac and Barangay Cutcut, Angeles City.

At least 14 prominent piggeries in Porac and some others in nearby city are blamed for the emission of foul smell and spread of deadly diseases.
