CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The provincial government environment and natural resources officer (PGENRO) has categorically denied rampant illegal quarrying within the restricted area of the Gumain River in Floridablanca town.

Engineer Arthur Punsalan said on Monday that his office has monitored no illegal quarrying in the area after the Bases Conversion and Development (BCDA) filed a complaint on illegal quarrying within the one kilometer restricted area near bridges along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).

Meanwhile, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Deputy Regional Director Engr. Reynaldo Cruz said after verifying reports of illegal quarrying in the Gumain River in December 2012, the bureau has not received any report of illegal quarrying in the area lately.

Cruz said the PGENRO should be the one to check illegal quarrying in the Gumain River after submitting their investigation report last December.
