FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga – A perennial vice mayoral candidate in his town was shot dead by still unidentified gunman who escaped on the victim’s vehicle at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday last week in Barangay San Jose here.
A report received by Pampanga police director Senior Supt. Nicolas Salvador identified the victim as Cenen Pamintuan Tongol, 51, a member of PDP-Laban party who had run for vice mayor in every elections since 2010 but always lost.
The report said Tongol was driving his owner-type jeep when he was flagged down by still unidentified men. When the victim slowed down, one of the men shot him several times. At least two suspects then fled with his vehicle.
Tongol had visited his farm and was on his way home in the same barangay when he was killed.
Tongol is known to have been vocal against big construction firms for unhampered quarrying of lahar sand along the Porac-Gumain River here.
As of yesterday, police still had not clue on the suspects.
