SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Government’s efforts at promoting peace and security through the conduct of authentic dialogues with local communities presses on as National Security Adviser Norberto B. Gonzales announces the holding of the “Local Peace and Security Assembly” (LPSA) to cover the entire Region III, on November 5-6 in Subic Bay Freeport where Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to address the participants at the close of the assembly.
Some 200 participants consisting of concerned members of the Cabinet, local government officials, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) commanders, as well as recognized leaders of the civil society, business groups, religious institutions, indigenous peoples groups, and the academe are expected to take part in the LPSA in Region III
At this multi-sectoral conference-workshop, representatives of the national government shall discuss with local government and sectoral leaders of Region III on approaches to address the various issues and problems affecting peace and security in their localities.
They are expected to formulate an action agenda that they themselves would commit to implement, for presentation to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the close of the Assembly.
The LPSA is a continuing consultation drive at the regional level that was started since the middle of last year, primarily in response to the clamors of LGUs and local stakeholders for support to their various conflict-resolution and peace building initiatives.
LPSAs had been conducted for Region 7 (in Tagbilaran City), CARAGA (Butuan City), Region 8 (Tacloban City), CALABARZON (San Pablo City), Region 5 (Masbate City), Region 11 (Tagum City), CAR (Bagued, Abra), Region 6 (Bacolod City), Region 2 (Tuguegarao City), Region 9 (Dapitan City), and MIMAROPA (Calapan City).
