PDP-Laban Senate bet Astra Pimentel.
PALAYAN CITY – Big companies overseas where Filipinos comprise 90 percent of their workforces should be encouraged to invest in the Philippines country, a PDP-Laban senatorial bet said here Sunday afternoon.
Astra Pimental, who substituted for Pres. Duterte in the party’s senate slate, said Filipino workers will not have to leave their families if they can productively be employed to these firms in the Philippines.
“Sabi mga ni Pagulong Duterte, nakita niya yung ating naging performance, napakarami nang issues especially trafficking ng ating mga kababaihan, domestic violence ng ating mga kababaihan na nakapag-asawa ng mga banyaga, mga teenaged pregnancy because the families were separated due to economic problems,” she said.
Pimentel, along with Ako OFW Partylist nominee Coco Naik, met with OFWs and their families at the Farmers’ Plaza as well as village leaders at Plaza Concepcion here.
They were joined by PDP Laban standard bearer for Nueva Ecija governor, Palayan City Mayor Edrianne Mae Cuevas and tandem former Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson.
Pimental also pressed for the advancement of the country’s tourism industry which she said creates several kinds of Iivelihood opportunities, on top of transient homes, transportation, food, and tourist guides.
“Napakarami nang social cost ng pangingibang bansa,” Pimentel said.
For his part, Naik said his group is eyeing, among others, the provision of pension plan for OFWs that will be equivalent to the Government Service Insurance System for state workers.
“Yan po ay paghahanda sa kanilang pagre-retiro,” Naik said.
Pimentel lauded Cuevas for pursuing the programs of Duterte, their party leader. Cuevas is PDP Laban’s national treasurer while Pimentel heads the membership committee.
“Magkatugma ang puso namin lalo na sa pangangalaga ng kababaihan at turismo,” she said, adding she will surely work with the Nueva Ecija provincial government in many programs.
