SUBIC, Zambales — Philippine Coast Guard commandant CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan has ordered BRP Sindangan to conduct search and rescue operations for the missing fisherman in the vicinity waters 62 nautical miles southeast off Sampaloc Point, Subic.

PCG spokesperson CG Rear Admiral Armando Balilo identified the missing fisherman as Jose Mondoñedo. His brother Robert Mondoñedo, 47, survived when their fishing banca FB John Robert was hit by an unidentified vessel, causing it to sink.

Report said that the two fishermen departed Barangay Wawandaue, Subic, going to their payao in the vicinity waters off Sampaloc Point.  The surviving brother said an unidentified vessel hit their fishing boat at around 3 p.m. on July 3.

Robert said he stayed at their payao for three days until FB Irish Mae passed by and rescued him at around 8 a.m., July 6.

Balilo advised the Coast Guard Station in Subic to immediately issue a notice to mariners, as well as coordinated with neighboring barangays and local fisherfolks for possible sightings of the missing fisherman.

The Zambales PCG are still conducting investigation and gathering additional information regarding the incident.
