Filipino Fashion Designer Paul Cabral presented his first fashion show at the Laperal Mansion (Arlegui Guest House) on February 27, 2024.
For more than 20 years, Paul Cabral has been known as an accomplished creative and a devotee of Philippine textile. He has established himself as the go-to designer of top artists, political leaders and best-dressed personalities. With his impeccable craftsmanship, refined aesthetics, and attention to detail, Paul’s designs have landed numerous red carpets, fashion editorials and milestone events. In 2015, he designed piña barongs for 21 world leaders for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum. This led him to be hailed as one of the most prominent designers in the Philippines.
The Laperal Mansion (Arlegui Guest House) in Manila was the chosen setting of his Filipino fashion presentation. Paul’s pieces perfectly fit the heritage home, as his designs embody our unique modern way of dressing and the historical landmark continues to discover and showcase our cultural distinctiveness. In Una, Paul Cabral’s signature aesthetic such as classical Filipiniana silhouettes, sophisticated tailoring, and intricate details were highlighted.
The spotlight was on the Piña fabric — the muse of the inaugural show. The special textile in traditional Filipino clothing is prized for its lightweight and structural properties, as well as for its lustrous sheen. Paul has proudly developed and innovated the traits of the said fabric and applied to the 70-look collection.
Cabral’s refined sensibilities were evident as the clothes maintained the lines and shapes of Filipino formal dresses. His first runway was an ode to those who have supported him in his artistic journey, from being a student of life as a former apprentice of some of the best local designers, to be the country’s current Fashion Master.
True to his advocacy of elevating the Philippine creative and design industry, Cabral will donate a portion of the profit from the buyer’s show to Fashion Aid Philippines (F.A.P.). F.A.P., a non-stock, non-profit organization that aims to help the new generation of Filipino talents. Through F.A.P., Paul envisions to unite all of them – from weavers and tailors, to designers and beauty artists — to grow the industry and celebrate Filipino culture and ingenuity. During the premier gala, various Filipino politicians, celebrities and ambassadors expressed their support to the fashion icon.
