GAPAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Police is waging a manhunt operation against members of a highway robbery gang that victimized passengers of a bus along the national highway, some 200 meters away from a police detachment, Sunday morning.
Two of the six suspects were identified in police rogue gallery as Alvin Pangan, alias “Pusit” and Emilio Perez, alias “Bombon,” both residents of Barangay Manbangnan, San Leonardo town.
Supt. Ricardo Villanueva, city police chief, said the suspects were arrested in 2009 in connection with a bus robbery in San Rafael, Bulacan. They are also facing criminal charges for illegal possession of firearms before the local courts, police said.
Investigation showed the Five Star passenger bus was cruising Maharlika Highway, in the vicinity of Barangay San Roque here from Pasay City with 26 passengers at about 11:30 A.M. when the suspects declared a hold-up. The passengers were divested of a total of P90,000 in cash and P80,000 worth of valuables, police reported.
The bus with license plate no. AWA-174 was driven by Romeo Cabantac, 42, of Barangay Busao, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija.
Two suspects reportedly took the wheel from the driver. The suspects were armed with handguns, police reported.
The loot was put in a sack and the suspects made their getaway by flagging and boarding a Baliwag Transit bus that incidentally was passing by.
Villanueva said follow up investigation is being conducted to run after the gang members.
