CABANATUAN CITY – Dams, including the mammoth Pantabangan reservoir, and
other irrigation facilities within the Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation
System (UPRIIS), were spared from damages of the magnitude 7.0 that hit most
parts of northern Luzon, an initial assessment showed.
These facilities also include Masiway Dam in Pantabangan, Tayabo Dam in San
Jose City, Torre and Cojuangco dams in Talavera, Macanae Dam in Lupao, Vaca
Dam in Llanera, Murcon Dam in Talavera, Rizal Dam in Rizal, Atate and Aulo dams
in Palayan City, Upper Tabuating Dam in Gen. Tinio, and Peñaranda Dam in
Peñaranda.
Engr. Rosalinda Bote, UPRIIS department manager, said that further site
inspection and evaluation on dams and appurtenant structures, irrigation
facilities, and office buildings along with other in-progress rehabilitation and
construction of infrastructure projects, are being conducted.
“Initial analysis on data are categorized as intensity IV, perceived shaking as light,”
she said.
Meanwhile, the local water utility firm has restored water supply for its
consumers in Barangay San Anton, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija at about 4 p.m.,
hours after a 35,000 gallon-tank was toppled by the tremor.
“Dahil po siguro sa dami ng tubig na karga ay umikot-ikot po yung tangke tapos
nabuwal na,” said Gerald Concepcion, caretaker of the pump station.
