CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Barangay chairmen have been tapped by the provincial government to help collect billions of real property taxes (RPT) in Pampanga.

Vice Gov. Lilia Pineda noted that barangays have a bigger share of taxes and wanted to mobilize them in assisting their respective city/municipal assessors and treasurers in their collection.

“Barangay officials should work and do their part in ensuring that their constituents pay the correct taxes, since this will greatly augment or add to the income not only of the province, but of all barangays,” Pineda said.

The provincial government is also eyeing to complement the national government’s program on tax amnesty to encourage Kapampangans to pay the correct RPTs.

“This is to provide relief to delinquent tax payers while raising additional funds for government projects and services,” provincial administrator Atty. Charlie Chua said.

Provincial assessor Romeo Dizon said barangays get the biggest share of RPT income at 40 percent, followed by the province at 35 percent and the city or municipality at 25 percent.
