Pampanga SWAT team ranks 5th overall in national competition

    CITY OF DAN FERNANDO – The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of Pampanga landed top five in the overall championship of the First Chief PNP SWAT Challenge national competition held in Davao City from March 1 to 3.

    On Monday, the Pampanga SWAT Team was presented to Gov. Lilia G. Pineda by Supt. Jean Fajardo, PNP Region 3 Intelligence and Investigation Division chief.

    The SWAT Team, composed of 22 members, also emerged champions in the “Bus Assault” and “Night Raid” categories and ended runner-up in the “Close Quarter Battle” category from a field of 60 competing teams.

    Led by their commander Senior Inspector Renemer James Pornia and coaches SPO4 Jovit Agumboy, SPO3 Honorato Marania and PO3 Joseph Cabading, the SWAT team are armed with the latest gadgets like “tactical light” and weaponry including the M4.

    Pineda congratulated and saluted the SWAT team as she enjoined them to continue keeping the peace in the province.

    “We need to be vigilant and stay vigilant against terrorists and other criminal elements,” she said.

    The Philippine National Police said the activity is aimed to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and the tactical proficiency of the SWAT units with the emphasis on upgrading its operational capability to respond to armed situations.

    The PNP also said the activity is in line with its Master Training Action Plan for 2018 in partnership with Team Davao Inc., Philippine Association of Rifle Enthusiasts and Philippine Shooters and Match Officers Confederation.

    President Duterte attended the event with PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
