CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The Provincial Government of Pampanga has intensified its disaster preparedness measures as Typhoon Uwan is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall over the province starting Sunday evening.

Vice Governor Dennis Pineda personally led the inspection of the Capitol’s disaster response fleet on Saturday at the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) compound.

The check covered fire trucks, dump trucks, heavy equipment, rescue boats, and other emergency response assets to ensure they are fully operational for possible deployment.

Pineda also briefed rescue personnel, urging them to prioritize safety and adhere to established protocols during emergency operations.

After the inspection, the Vice Governor proceeded to the Command and Control Center, where he monitored real-time updates on the approaching storm.

The center’s CCTV system provided situational awareness over coastal barangays and other potential high-risk areas.

Preparations are likewise underway in upland communities.

In Barangay San Juan Baño, at the foot of Mt. Arayat, local authorities tested early warning devices, including sirens, and reviewed data from landslide sensors deployed on the mountain.

These systems aim to detect early signs of soil movement and guide timely evacuation actions.

“Especially San Juan Baño, may risk tayo ng landslide. Sinabihan ko na rin ang barangay captain natin na mag-announce, ulitin ang mga protocols in case na maglandslide, saan tatakbo na area. Yung mga tao, yung mga go bag nila, iready na rin po,” the vice governor said.

The provincial government has also prepositioned 36,287 relief packs and 60,760 canned goods, alongside ongoing sandbagging operations.

Evacuation centers across Pampanga have been readied with food supplies, mats, blankets, and medical teams to support affected families if evacuations become necessary.

As a precautionary measure, classes in all levels, both public and private, have been suspended on November 10 and 11 in anticipation of the typhoon’s impact.

Officials continue to remind Kapampangans to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas, and monitor official advisories as Tropical Storm Uwan nears the Philippine landmass.

He likewise urged residents to ensure that they have a means of communication with their barangay officials in case they need help, and for an open line between barangay to municipal and municipal to the provincial government to facilitate disaster response. (MJSC, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
