Pampanga Bonsai Association launches gradioise exhibit

    Considering the unique characteristics of bonsai, it’s unfortunate that some people limit themselves thinking of it as expensive little trees. Bonsai making however, is becoming popular now and hobbyists can surely attest to the fact that a quest for bonsai requires full dedication of time and resources, just as it rewards them with boundless hours of pleasure and fleeting escape from stress.

    Pampanga Bonsai Association officers and members confirmed that indeed there’s more to see above and beyond these beautiful trees during the first invitational competition and exhibit co-presented by Philippine Bonsai Society, Incorporated (PBSI) at SM City Clark. Participated by bonsai affiliates from Pangasinan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Manila, SM City Clark meeting place was converted into a Japanese style garden with numerous creative bonsai trees. Ribbon cutting led by Raymond Cordero of Pampanga Bonsai Association, PBSI officers and event sponsors. Competition board of judges bonsai masters and gurus included Bobby Gopiao, Romy Dino, Herden Pedrejas, Fely Gupit and Elry Nocido. Free workshop gave light to the event officiated by master Romy Dino of PBSI.

    Winners presented by board of judges and guest of honor Ma. Clemencita D. Doble, M.D. of Clark Development Corporation, major awards won as follows:

    •    Best in show bantigue category by Allan Gueco and Art Loyola 

    •    Best in show native specie “Mulawin Aso” by Apollo Ferrer

    •    Gold medalist “Bayabas” cascade style by Raymond A. Cordero

    •    Gold medalist Bougainvilae and Fokien tea rockgrown by Rogie Dimabuyu
