ANGELES CITY – Boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao has endorsed an actress, now a city councilor here for president of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL).
Pacquiao asked members of the provincial board in the country to vote for Councilor Maricel “Marang” Morales as NMYL national president.
“By the way, please don’t forget to vote for my favorite councilor, Maricel Morales, as NMYL president,” said Pacquiao in the dialect, earning applause from the audience at the Heritage Hotel in Manila.
Morales, for her part, expressed elation over the endorsement of the “best boxer ever and a respected public servant.”
“I am running as national president because I intended to see movement in the Movement. I am advocating reformation for the advancement of a new government. A government that is just, efficient and productive, where all members will feel the benefits of being a young legislator,” Morales said.
“No to decentralization of benefits only to the officers which has always been the case. NMYL members from far flung areas who need exposure and trainings are robbed off this privilege,” she added.
The NMYL national convention and election is set on Feb. 22-25 next year at the Manila Hotel.
Founded by Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in the late 80’s when he was Quezon City councilor, the NMYL is composed of elected official aged 35-years-old and below. The members are councilors, vice mayors, vice governors, board members, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) federation presidents and Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) presidents.
Some of the former NMYL national presidents include former Bulacan Gov. Josie De La Cruz and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
