CLARK FREEPORT – Some P8.5-million worth of Ecstasy party drugs were seized here Monday by the Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark, in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
In a subsequent controlled delivery operations Tuesday, the claimant to the shipment was arrested by law enforcers in Las Pinas City.
The contraband, which came from Brussels, Belgium in a shipment declared as “Lamp,” was closely monitored and upon arrival subjected to x-ray scanning which showed images of possible presence of illegal drugs concealed inside the lining of the corrugated box.
The shipment was further subjected to K9 sweeping which also gave positive indications. The physical examination that followed resulted to the discovery of one lamp with six transparent plastic pouches inside covered with carbon film containing 4,976 pieces of pink and gray colored tablets suspected to be Ecstasy.
Representative samples were turned over to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis which confirmed that the substance was methylenedioxymethamphetamine or Ecstasy, a dangerous drug under R.A. No. 9165.
District Collector Alexandra Lumontad issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violation of Sections 1400, 118 (g), 119 (d) and 1113 par. f, i & l (3 & 4) of R.A. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act) in relation to R.A. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
On Dec. 7, a controlled delivery operation was conducted by the joint elements of PDEA, CAIDTF, ESS & CIIS to the consignee’s address at Las Pinas City which resulted to the arrest of the claimant.
The subject illegal drugs will be turned over to PDEA for proper disposition and the claimant will be subjected to inquest proceedings.
Based from records, this is the seventh major drug apprehension of the Port of Clark for 2021 and to date, the Port of Clark has seized P53.5-million worth of illegal drugs. With BOC-Clark/PR
