CLARK FREEPORT – Ah, to what extent will drug smugglers go! The Bureau of Customs – Port of Clark last month intercepted over a kilo of cocaine concealed inside the rims of three wheelchair casters.
In a belated post in its social media account last week, BOC-Clark said the illegal shipment tagged as “mini/sumatic wheelchair caster” arrived on January 13 from Tanzania, East Africa.
Subjected to usual K9 sniffing and x-ray scanning procedures and physical examination by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the shipment yielded a total of 1,187.1 grams of suspected cocaine worth P6,291,630 prompting the BOC to immediately issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violating Sections 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113 par. f, i & l (3 & 4) of R.A. No. 10863 in relation to Section 4 of R.A. No. 9165.
BOC-Clark collector John Simon said that port’s border protection measures and consistent coordination with PDEA have effectively prevented illegal drugs from entering the borders.
He added that the Port of Clark would remain vigilant on the various modes of concealment used in trying to smuggle illegal drugs into the country. Punto News Team
