CABANATUAN CITY – Operatives hauled over P440,640-worth of illegally cut lumber which were found abandoned on the riverside of Barangay Rio Chico, Gen. Tinio, Nueva Ecija on July 8 amid police’s aggressive campaign against illegal logging.
Col. Jess Mendez, Nueva Ecija police director, said composite forces from various police units discovered in separate spots the 153 pieces of illegally cut lumber with a total volume of 7,119.67 board feet.
On July 6, 127 pieces of illegally cut sawn lumber with estimated market value of P410,019 were also seized in Barangay Pias of the same town.
Also called Papaya, Gen. Tinio has been tagged as the illegal logging hotbed of Nueva Ecija.
The recovered illegal cut sawn lumber are now under the custody of police units for proper disposition.
“This intensified effort among different agencies including the Philippine National Police in general, and Nueva Ecija police in particular, shall thrive to sustain a cooperative outcome in combating illegal logging activities as a solution to deforestation and as part of rainforest conservation,” Mendez said.
