PEN̈ARANDA, Nueva Ecija – The municipal government is putting up P200,000 reward money for any information that will lead to the resolution on the recent killing of a local environment staff.

Mayor Joey Ramos said they are seeking justice for Edwin dela Cruz, 52, a team leader of the municipal environment and natural resources office who was shot repeatedly by still unidentified riding-in-tandem at Purok 7, Barangay Las Pin̈as here at around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2.

Ramos said Dela Cruz who heads one of three MENROs has been faithfully performing his duties in a manner that no one gets angry.

“Napakahinahon at mababang-loob niya,” Ramos said, adding people are seeking justice for Dela Cruz.

Town police chief Maj. Ferdinand Somera said the victim was having dinner with his partner “Zenaida” at the canteen which they own when the suspects on board a motorcycle arrived and shot him successively using a .45 pistol.

Responders rushed Dela Cruz to the Nueva Ecija Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival by attending physician, Somera said. The victim sustained some 15 gunshot wounds, including in the face, he added.

Somera said the attack could have been work-related but admitted they have yet to establish the identities of the attacker.

The reward money offered by the LGU would help expedite the resolution of the case, Somera said.
