CITY OF SAN FERNANDO– A P2-million reward has been put up by relatives and friends of the Edejer family for the solution and arrest of the suspects in their massacre.
P2-M bounty for arrest of massacre suspects This developed even as both kin and friends of the victims as well as concerned citizens have raised questions on the “silence of indifference” of Mayor Edwin Santiago over the “heinous crime.”
Santiago has not issued any statement on the massacre and refused to answer calls on his cellphone. Text messages to his cellphone asking for his reaction on the massacre merited no response.
Senior Supt. Oscar Albayalde, provincial police director, said yesterday that relatives of the Edejer family as well as some of their friends have offered the reward money for the speedy resolution of the case.
As of press time, there is still no clear indication as to who perpetrated the gruesome massacre that happened inside the residential compound of the Edejer family at L&S Subdivision in Barangay Telabastagan here last September 20.
The massacre claimed the lives of seven individuals which included husband and wife Nicolas, 42, and Corazon, 48; their son Kenneth, 19; nephew Nelson Dominico, 17; and housemaids Teresita Lansangan 40, and Kaykay, 27; and one Benigno Villanueva, 52, a masseuse.
Nicolas seemed to have survived the massacre but three days later succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head at the nearby Sacred Heart Hospital in Angeles City where he was brought. All the victims suffered gunshot wounds to the head from what police investigators claimed was the same a .45 caliber pistol with a silencer which masked the gunshots.
The massacre was discovered by the couple’s 10-year-old son who came home from school and scaled the locked gate of their compound to gain access into their house only to discover the grisly bloodbath. Albayalde refused to make further comments on the massacre other than say that the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Edejer is still busy following up leads.
Sources said realtor Lito Wijangco was at the Edejer residence on the day of the massacre but was lucky enough to leave before the suspects entered the residential compound.
The sources said Wijangco met with Nicolas at around noon to give him solicitation letters for the unfinished chapel in Barangay Calulut.
But Wijangco left around 12:45 p.m. which proved to be very lucky for him. The source said had he stayed for a few more minutes, he could have been included in the massacre.
