CITY OF SAN FERNANDO
A P2.9-billion subcontracting agreement to supply ready-mix concrete for the construction of the PNR Clark Phase 2 railway project – Package 1 has been signed by Megawide Construction Corp.s Batching Plant Unit with the joint venture of Hyundai E&C, Megawide, and Dong-ah Geologica.

The contract provides for the installation and operation of concrete batching plants and supply of ready-mix concrete to the project.

“PNR Clark Phase 2 promises to improve transportation of people, goods, and services from Central Luzon to the National Capital Region, with the goal of boosting mobility, trade, and commerce between the two regions,” Megawide EVP Markus Hennig said.

“Through our combined expertise in engineering and construction, we would be able to meet and support the demands of the railway project by ensuring operational efficiency and raw material availability through the steady supply of consistent, high-quality ready-mix concrete,” he added.

Megawide will build two mobile batching facilities with rated capacities of 120 and 80 cubic meters per hour, and will be the first among plans to integrate an ice plant in the production line as a means of optimizing temperature to produce higher quality concrete.

It specifically employed this innovation for the project given the site’s relatively warm temperature to ensure that the concrete product achieves its ideal strength and other technical specifications at the minimum required curing time.

Megawide previously announced that its business units are gearing up to support the construction of the Package 1 of the PNR Clark Phase 2, a flagship project of the Department of Transportation under the government’s Build, Build, Build program.

Contract Package N01, which was awarded by the DOTr and Philippine National Railways in 2020, covers 17 kilometers of elevated viaducts, seven balanced cantilever bridges, and two stations from Malolos and Calumpit in Bulacan, as well as Apalit up to Minalin in Pampanga.

The 54-kilometer PNR Clark Phase 2 from Malolos to Clark will feature the country’s first airport railway express service.

It forms part of the 148-kilometer North-South Commuter Railway Project, stretching from Laguna to Clark. The other two segments are the PNR Clark Phase 1 from Tutuban to Malolos and PNR Calamba from Solis to Calamba. Carlo Lorenzo J. Datu/PIA-3
