MABALACAT, Pampanga – The old municipal building in Barangay Poblacion here will be used as regional offices of the national government in support of President Arroyo’s program to bring services closer to the people in Central Luzon.

Disclosing this to Punto yesterday, Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales said the two-storey municipal building along MacArthur  Highway will be used by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) as their regional offices.

Morales said Arroyo had personally asked him to let the two offices use the municipal hall when she visited the province recently. He added that Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza had recommended to Arroyo the site as “its location is near Clark.”

“We support the President’s wish to make government offices and services readily available to the people. It will not just benefit Pampanga but nearby areas in Region III,” said Morales.

The five-time mayor said he, Vice Mayor Pros Lagman and other top municipal officials had decided to allow the LTFRB and LTO use of the municipal hall building “for one peso a year.”

“I would even leave the tables, chairs and other fixtures to make the transfer easier for them,” said Morales. He added that the LTO and LTFRB will begin to use the building “anytime this year.”

The municipal offices were in located in the separate buildings in Poblacion, the Mabalacat Public Market in Barangay San Francisco and the Marina Arcade Building in Dau until they all transferred recently to the P60-million new municipal hall at the  Xevera-Mabalacat North. It was donated by Delfin Lee, developer of the P6-billion housing project in Barangay Tabun.
