LIMAY, Bataan: The Philippine Coast Guard on Tuesday reported that siphoning of oil from the sunken MTKR Terra Nova in Limay, Bataan continued and 1,323,104 liters of oily waste collected as of September 9.

Oil recovery operations from the vessel loaded with 1.4 million liters of industrial oil that sank July 25 started on August 19 but temporarily stopped on September 2 – 6 due to bad weather caused by habagat and tyhoon Enteng.

Harbor Star, the contracted salvor, collected the oily waste from MT Terra Nova while PCG’s BRP Sindangan utilized water cannon to agitate oil sheen and Coast Guard divers conducted underwater inspection at ground zero.

On the other sunken vessel, MTKR Jason Bradley, in Mariveles, Bataan, PCG said that the contracted salvor, FES Challenger has mobilized its pumps and will start the installation of siphoning pipes Tuesday, September 10.

Target date to refloat MTKR Jason Bradley was set on Saturday, September 14 and to be brought to Diving Industry Shipyard in Barangay Alas-asin in Mariveles for further operations. MV Mirola 1 that ran aground in Mariveles was also brought to the same shipyard.

PCG said that the Oil Spill Response Team patrols the vicinity waters near the sunken vessel and no oil sheen was observed during the survey. (30)
