CLARK FREEPORT – Pres. Duterte has declared this Oct. 15, a Monday, and Oct. 26, a Friday, as non-working holidays in this chartered city which is commemorating its month-long fiesta this month.

By the authority of the President, Executive Sec. Salvador Medialdea issued Proclamation No. 589 declaring the special non-working holidays for this city’s “Fiestang Kuliat.”

The order cited fiesta events, particularly the “Tigtigan, Terakan King Dalan” (Kapampangan literally meaning music and dancing in the street) which it noted as “a festival which symbolizes the resilience of the people during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.”

It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Angeles be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in these occasions with appropriate ceremonies,” the proclamation said.

Yearly, Malacanang had been issuing such proclamation for this city’s fiesta, but the date varies depending on the schedule of festivities.

City officials said that this year, Oct. 15 would mark the feast of the Virgen de la Naval, while Oct. 26 would commemorate the feast of Apu Mamacalulu or the Lord of Divine Mercy. These religious festivities, however, could not be cited by Malacanang purportedly in observance of the principle of the separation of the church and the state.
