CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “Mayor Oca is the true meaning of leadership.”
Thus said yesterday Fr. Resty Lumanlan, executive director of the Multi-Sectoral Assembly (MSGC), as he openly endorsed Mayor Oscar “Oca” Rodriguez for governor in Pampanga.
He was the last to speak during the MSGC assembly when different sectors showcased the multiple awards and citations of the city under the leadership of the two-term mayor.
“Let go city, Mayor Rodriguez for Pampanga governor,” said Lumanlan, who is a friend of priest-on-leave Gov. Eddie Panlilio.
Lumanlan said Rodriguez is the ideal public servant because he brought out the best among himself and others benefiting the city.
“He is a transformative mayor,” said Lumanlan, who disclosed that he had no plans to endorse the mayor during his speech “but it was mere divine intervention.”
“The province needs Oca,” he said.
Rene Romero, president of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham), echoed the sentiments of Lumanlan. He said “Mayor Oca should have been a governor long time ago.”
Romero said he had asked Rodriguez to seek the top provincial executive post years back and last year.
“The mayor will even be more effective because being a governor is easier,” he said.
Romero said Rodriguez didn’t run for governor because he was determined to finish his job in the capital city.
Rodriguez, for his part, said he was surprised with the endorsement of Lumanlan.
“I never thought of running for governor these days,” he said. He added that his priority is to finish the maximum three terms for elective public official.
Rodriguez said “there are many considerations before one should run for governor.” He said he would “only run for governor if the political party, President and the people want him to.”
