CABANATUAN CITY – The administration of a college that offers the in-demand course of nursing has maintained its position not to allow over 200 students who failed a pre-board test to graduate this April.

Alessandra De Guzman, chief administrative officer of the Good Samaritan Colleges (GSC), said the examination given to the 312 students last March 2 to 3 was actually not a pre-board assessment test but of ”considered regular academic subject” that is called Integration.

Of the 312, only 98 passed the test, it was learned.

Earlier parents of the failing students conducted a series of demonstrations in front of the school, calling the administration to allow the students participate in the graduation rites.

Dionisio Bautista, a parent, said each student has spent some P31,000  during the recent affiliation alone. This he said, “must be enough to consider the fate of the students.”

They believed the examination was only a pre-board thus should not be used against the nursing students.

Integration filled up the “Elective II” in the college curriculum for fourth year.

Bautista said they were willing to have their children enrolled for the “Integration” after the graduation but they should be allowed to go on stage right this commencement exercises.

The Integration, where nursing students, were supposed to tackle everything they learned from first year to fourth year, was a 3-unit subject, De Guzman said.

She stressed that failing the subject, just like in any other academic ones, really bars student from graduating. She noted that in order to graduate, students must “satisfactorily satisfy” the requirements.

Bautista said they have also filed petitions with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Nueva Ecija and the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cabanatuan.
