CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — About 13,000 daily commuters now benefit from safer and more efficient travel following the completion of the P87.81-million road rehabilitation project along the Cabanatuan City–Carmen Road in Aliaga, Nueva Ecija.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) upgraded a 3.83-kilometer, two-lane national road with Portland concrete cement pavement, reducing travel time between Barangays San Felipe Bata and Zaragoza Proper to just 18 minutes.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said heavy traffic volume and wear over time had long deteriorated the road pavement, creating a transportation bottleneck that hindered economic activities.

The damaged pavement caused frequent delays, vehicle damage, and safety risks for commuters.

“The completion of this ensures a more reliable and safer route for thousands of road users daily, significantly improving accessibility and overall travel experience in the area. This aligns with the objectives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More Program,” he said.

Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, the project also included shoulder construction and the installation of a cross drain, covering Barangays San Juan, Bucot, Santo Tomas, Macabucod, and Carmen. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
