TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – A 38-year-old female assistant of Gov. Czarina Umali was killed while her husband was wounded in a gun attack in Barangay Marcos here at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police Officer 2 Gilbert Dizon, town police investigator, identified the victims as Mary Anne Hernandez who died on the spot and her husband Carlito, 45, who is now recuperating from gunshot wounds.
Investigation disclosed the couple stopped for refilling at a gas station when a gunman suddenly appeared and shot Mary Anne repeatedly using a .45 pistol.
Carlito was driving the SUV (DOJ 826) with s Marry Anne at the passenger seat. Police said the suspect was apparently only after Mary Anne but hit Carlito in the process.
Their two children and a househelp who were sitting on the back were unhurt.
The gunman then rushed to a waiting single motorcycle and fled towards north, police said.
Police said investigation is on-going to establish the motive and the identity of the suspects.
