CABANATUAN CITY – Members of the Nueva Ecija police provincial office (Neppo) spearheaded a blood-letting activity to augment the needed blood for victims of dengue in the province on Tuesday.

The policemen, some of them women, have donated a total of 91 units to be stored at the Philippine Red Cross-Nueva Ecija Chapter (PRC_NE) blood bank inside the Old Capitol compound here.

“Ang PNP [Philippine National Police] po ay nag-move sila para makatulong sa mga biktima po ng dengue,” said Rudell de Guzman, chapter service representative for blood donation.

As of mid-August, the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Luzon has recorded over 160 dengue cases in Nueva Ecija, ranking the province second in the region.

He said donors have been subjected to preliminary tests. Most of the donors are basically fit to donate, he said.
“Ito po ay dadaan pa sa proseso, dadaan sa limang eksamin,” he said. The tests include HIV, malaria, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and syphilis.

Supt. Ed Soriano, deputy provincial director for administration of NEPPO, said the activity here is the police’s answer to the increasing need for blood which will be used for dengue victims. He said policemen have been donating blood through the PRC-NE.

This developed as the provincial health office of Nueva Ecija urged residents to help fight dengue by creating mosquito traps that will break the reproductive cycle of the aedes egypti, the dengue-carrying strain of mosquito.
