PALAYAN CITY – Military troopers unearthed an alleged New People’s Army (NPA) arms’ cache in Barangay Kalawakan, Dona Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan on Thursday, the Army reported on Monday.
Major Gen. Ralph Villanueva, commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division (7ID), said the arms included fourteen M-16 rifles, one M-15 rifle, one garand rifle and two rifle grenades. The government troopers also recovered an extra bolt for M-16 rifle, one ICOM radio transceiver, 1,170 rounds of bullets for M-16 rifle and assorted bandoleers.
Major Charlemaigne Batayola, 7ID spokesman, said all the recovered items which were kept in a drum were all working well.
Batayola said elements of the 56th Infantry Battalion led by 1Lt. Benny Espanol, commanding officer of the Charlie Company, went to Sitio Bulo dam, Barangay Kalawakan, Dona Remedios Trinidad at about 6 a.m. on May 7 upon receiving report from a former rebel.
The Army believes the discovery of the arms cache is a setback to the communist movement, New people’s Army (NPA).
“The recent recovery of the CTs arms cache is a major blow to the CPP-NPA organization and is an indication that the military is gaining positive result in its fight against them,” Villanueva said.
The commanding general said that “the firearms were “precious” for the rebel group, the hoarding “manifests that their forces are rapidly dwindling.”
“While the inevitable is bound to happen to their organization, the AFP is offering an alternative for their members to surrender and avail of the Social Integration Program of the government, giving them the chance to live a peaceful life together with their families,” he added.
