ANGELES CITY— The Northern Philippine Bonsai Society, Inc. (PBSI) Show 2024 has officially commenced at SM City Clark, bringing to life the theme “All Roads Lead to the Nationals.” The extraordinary collection of miniature trees at this premier event (PBSI) is sure to captivate bonsai enthusiasts and art lovers.
On September 5, a distinguished lineup of guests, including Master Hsu Tung Chunga, a celebrated Bonsai Master from Taiwan, PBSI President Cristina Anne Dionisio, and PBSI Board Director Yumie Gupit, attended the grand ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the exhibit. This year’s show features nearly 200 bonsai specimens from Northern Luzon, with entries arriving from as far as Aparri and Tuguegarao.
Despite the challenges posed by inclement weather, the quality and diversity of the bonsai on display have exceeded expectations.
“The Northern PBSI Bonsai Show has showcased an unprecedented level of participation and artistry.
The trees presented here are a testament to the skill and dedication of bonsai artists in the region,” said Gupit.
The exhibition runs from September 5 to September 8, offering visitors an immersive experience in bonsai artistry.
On September 6, Master Hsu Tung Chung will deliver a lecture on Suiseki, followed by a live bonsai demonstration that will offer insights into the nuanced aspects of this ancient art form.
The Pampanga Bonsai Society will present its own lecture and demonstration on September 7, sharing local techniques and perspectives.
The educational sessions will conclude on September 8 with a final demonstration by the PBSI – Bulacan Chapter. The show will also feature a diverse array of endemic Philippine trees, reflecting a commitment to both conservation and artistic innovation.
The focus on propagation and nurturing local species not only preserves natural heritage but also fosters the next generation of bonsai artists.
