LIMAY, Bataan- Despite the presence in Limay, Bataan of the Petron Bataan Refinery (PBR), the town does not have any special discount on the price of oil products, Mayor Lilvir Roque declared over the weekend.

The mayor said that what they can do to help in the stabilization of the cost of petroleum products is to request the management of PBR to increase its stock or inventory level like what the Department of Energy has asked major and independent oil players in the country.

“Dapat maiwasan ang malalaking pagtaas ng presyo ng oil products tulad ng nangyayari ngayon dahil sa gulo sa Middle East,” Roque said.

He said that the benefit the town gains from the oil refinery are revenues derived from real property taxes (RPT) with the municipal government getting 40 percent of the total payments. He could not say how much PBR pays in RPT.

The oil refinery, the biggest in the country, sits at a wide expanse of land fronting Manila Bay in Barangay Alangan.

Asked why petroleum products cost less in Dinalupihan, Bataan than in Limay, Roque said it might be a marketing strategy of the oil giant or the gas stations themselves.

A liter of diesel at the PTT and Shell gas stations in Dinalupihan costs P40.20 and P40.90, respectively.  At the Petron gas station just at the vicinity of the oil refinery in Limay, diesel is priced at P41.50 per liter.

At the Petron gas station in Balanga City, diesel costs P41.45 a liter or P0.05 less than the Petron station just at the gate of the oil refinery.
