CLARK FREEPORT – No pockets, no jewelry, no spaces in shoes, no cellphones for groundhandlers while at work at the Clark International Airport, as its chief executive has assured that “all blind spots that could give way to theft of Balikbayan boxes and luggage have been covered by CCTV cameras.

In a recent forum with the Capampangans in Media, Inc. (CAMI), Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) acting president Alexander S. Cauguiran revealed this, noting that the new policies cover arrivals where pilferages of baggage occur.

The Clark airport recently came under fire from netizens over Facebook accounts of a Filipino reporting empty luggage and Balikbayan box, and a Korean woman claiming attempts at extortion and theft.

In both instances, however, only personnel of groundhandling firm Miascor and the Bureau of Customs were implicated and none from CIAC.

Apart from apparel prohibitions, Cauguiran also said he has ordered only one entrance to the baggage area and that airlines have been told to hire security personnel to monitor groundhandling operations.

“There is no more blind spot from the dismounting of baggage from aircraft even up to the parking area,” Cauguiran said.
