CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Starting March 20, motorists traveling the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) will have to pay at least P10 more in additional toll rates.
The NLEx Corp. said the toll rate adjustments, approved by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), include an additional toll rate of P6 which will be applicable to the open system, upon the completion of the Harbor Link Segment 10 which was officially opened last Thursday.
The new six-lane toll road is a 5.6-kilometer elevated expressway that traverses the cities of Valenzuela, Malabon and Caloocan.
The additional toll rate also includes the first tranche of the approved periodic adjustments due in 2013 and 2015, amounting to an additional P4 in the open system, and P0.18 per kilometer in the closed system.
“The Open System, where a fl at rate is charged per entry, includes the Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue, Karuhatan, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Meycauayan, Marilao interchanges and toll plazas,” NLEx said.
“These cover the urban section of the expressway where the traffic congestion is more pronounced,” it added.
Under the new toll fee matrix, Class 1 vehicles or ordinary cars traveling within the Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon, Meycauayan, and Marilao sections will have to pay an additional P10, increasing to P55 the current P45 toll.
Meanwhile, Class 2 vehicles or buses and small trucks on the same corridor will pay an additional P23, up to P137 from P114, and Class 3 vehicles or large trucks and trailers will pay an additional P29, to P646 from P590.
For end-to-end travel between EDSA Balintawak or Mindanao Avenue to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat City, this would also mean higher fares—additional P22 for Class 1 vehicles, P56 for Class 2 vehicles, and P67 for Class 3 vehicles.
“Meanwhile, as agreed with the government, the NLEx Corp. will charge lower toll fees by P1-P2 across the board to cushion the impact of the adjustments,” NLEx said.
