BALANGA City – The family of outgoing 2nd District Rep. Enrique “Tet” Garcia on Monday announced that they have asked the Commission on Elections to replace him as vice governor-elect with his niece.

“We have petitioned Comelec to replace my father with my first cousin Kris (Ma. Cristina Garcia),” re-elected Gov. Albert “Abet” Garcia said.

Kris is eldest daughter of Tet’s younger brother. She was administrative officer in Congress when Tet was congressman for 17 years. She is presently head of the department of the provincial government that handles the scholarship program of Tet and Abet.

“Sanay na sanay na si Kris sa trabaho sa Capitol kaya tama lamang na siya ang pumalit sa aming ama bilang bise-gubernador. She will take her oath of office with us on June 30, depending on the decision of Comelec,” Abet said.

The elder Garcia got 300,444 votes in the May 9 elections. He and his four children all ran unopposed but the father remained unproclaimed.

The governor said his father is confined at the Makati Medical Center. “The replacement will be good for my father and the province,” he said.

Abet and brothers – Congressman-elect Jose Enrique III and Balanga City Mayor-elect Francis and sister – re-elected Dinalupihan Mayor Gila, were all officially proclaimed by the Board of Canvassers.
