ORANI, Bataan- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines on Wednesday cut off power service in three towns in Bataan to undertake preventive maintenance in its sub-station in barangay Balsik in Hermosa town.

Ernest Vidal, NGCP public affairs officer, said the maintenance work was necessary to prevent more power shutdowns.

The towns of Samal, Orani and Hermosa were without power for nine hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The other towns of Abucay, Pilar, Orion, Limay, Mariveles, Bagac and Morong and the City of Balanga experienced power interruptions of one hour, 30 minutes each from 8 – 8:30 a.m. and another 30 minutes each from 4:30 – 5 p.m.

Candles were the sources of lights of dark market stalls and even in the fish sections of public markets like in Orani.

The Peninsula Electric Cooperative, power distributor in Bataan, used the nine-hour brownout to replace some of its worn-out wooden posts and cleared its lines of the lush branches of trees.
