CABANATUAN CITY – “It’s time to heal the wounds.”

Thus said Board Member-elect Anthony Umali in an interview “instead of digging up shortcomings of anybody now that the Novo Ecijanos gave the local chief executive enough forces.”

Anthony is the brother of re-elected Nueva Ecija governor Aurelio Umali, whose administration was rocked by some 14 criminal and administrative charges filed by Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson.

Anthony, along with seven other partymates of Unang Sigaw Partido ng Pagbabago (USPP), dominated the provincial board in the last May elections against the Joson’s Bagong Lakas ng Nueva Ecija (Balane) that got only two seats.

The governor’s runningmate, Gay Padiernos, also won the vice governor’s seat.

This was a big twist from the 2007 elections which saw Umali, then first time governor, with only two allies in the board and Joson as the vice governor.

Anthony faced various charges ranging from the distribution of liquid fertilizer during his incumbency as 3rd district representative; releasing of funds allegedly without authorization from the board, alleged overspending, among others.

On the other hand, he also made a pitch on the supposed failure of the previous Joson administration to pay employees’ contribution to the    Government Service Insurance System (GSIS); failure to pay tuition fee for thousands of government scholars, and etc.

“Panahon na para tigilan ang batikusan. Wala na sila sa posisyon para sagutin ang mga akusasyon,” he said.

Anthony also said he would ask elected officials from the other parties to join them and implement various projects that will uplift the lives of every Novo Ecijano.

“Pag andiyan na uli ang eleksiyon, e di saka na uli ang laban sa pulitika,” he added.
