TARLAC CITY — One of the visions of newly-installed Tarlac State University (TSU) President Arnold Velasco is to advance research outputs of both teachers and students.

This is one step in providing quality higher education and promoting equitable access to education for professional development.

Velasco said there is a need to enhance the researches of teachers and students to create more opportunities and attract funding agencies.

“Doing research has many advantages. It will not only give our personnel incentives but also opportunities to present their researches abroad and use them for promotion,” he said.

To engage the university community to take part in research, Velasco said he will focus on activities that will build up their competence in crafting researches.

“We will be working with the possibility of having research capability enhancement, seminars, and trainings, where we will be sending them outside to learn additional insights. Also, we will be inviting funding agencies who will serve as the resource persons and evaluate the proposals made,” the official furthered.

Currently, TSU has State Universities and Colleges (SUC) Level 3 classification.

Velasco said he is aiming to increase this to SUC Level 4 in the first year of his administration.

“I have seen the potential of TSU to become SUC Level 4 hence, I will be applying for more Centers of Development and Centers of Excellence in the different programs of the university,” he shared.

TSU is also eyeing to participate in several world rankings such as Times Higher Educational Impact Rankings and Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
