CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Some 98 registered nurses are expected to work in all 35 barangays here in a bid to improve the delivery of health services under the Outreach Community Advocate Nurses Assigned in Rural Service (OCA-Nars) program.
In a press statement, the Public Affairs and Media Production Unit (Pampu) said the program is an offshoot of a 2009 mitigation measure against Influenza A(H1N1). Registered nurses then were deployed to help contain the spread of the virus.
“The city, after learning that some hospitals charge “training fees” to newly registered nurses for their practicum, launched the OCA-Nars as a six-month employment opportunity and training avenue for community heath nursing,” it said.
OCA-Nars is part of the city government’s health agenda dubbed as “Beinte Kwatro Oras, sa Sakit Walang Atras”.
As part of the city health force, nurses assigned to barangays will also help in various programs like vaccination, monitoring ailments, common and seasonal diseases.
They will also help poor families in applying for PhilHealth cards.
The nurses said that they are thankful to the city government for giving them the opportunity to be volunteers and help poor families.
“Mahirap maghanap ng trabaho ngayon, kahit graduate ka at may lisensya. Kailangan mo pang magbayad ng fees sa mga ospital para makapag-training ka. Kaya thankful kami sa city government para sa opportunity ito,” said John Saenz, an OCA-Nars.
All the 98 newly registered nurses attended the orientation on Monday that included Civil Service rules, rules and regulations of the local government and employees’ benefits. OCA-Nars has 135 members now.
