Nestlé Philippines has been recognized at the 2026 EPR Recognition Program for its outstanding contributions to plastic circularity, receiving both the Special Citation for Obliged Enterprises and the EPR Partners Leadership Award. As the only organization to receive two awards at the January 30 event, Nestlé was commended for its 100% plastic recovery rate and its role in helping the private sector navigate the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022.
Advancing Flexible Plastic Recycling
The awards, accepted by Meg Santos, Head of Sustainability, and Miggo Bautista, Sustainability Manager, highlight Nestlé’s role in the effective implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act. Specifically, the company was cited for the formation of the NPAP Flexible Plastic Recycling Working Group (FRWG), which aims to unlock investments and operationalize recycling technology for flexible plastics in the country.
“This recognition is a testament to Nestlé Philippines’ commitment to supporting EPR in the country and also highlights the value of working together to shape a waste-free future,” said Mauricio Alarcon, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Philippines. “Helping enhance recycling and waste management systems, including EPR is a major factor in advancing towards a circular economy. This is where our goal within the NPAP FRWG aligns: to attract investments in and advocating for advanced recycling of post-consumer flexible plastics to divert flexible plastic waste back into the loop.”
A Legacy of Collaboration
Nestlé’s leadership stems from years of partnership with the DENR, including the 2023 “Rethinking Plastics” roundtable discussions and the 2024 Philippine National Recycling Conference. From these events, Nestlé co-wrote two extensive reports with the DENR highlighting barriers and recommendations for EPR compliance.
Beyond advocacy, Nestlé Philippines continues to transform its operations to reduce carbon emissions and expand waste recovery programs, engaging employees and consumers in the movement to address climate change.
The program was led by the DENR together with the Philippine Alliance for Recycling Materials Sustainability (PARMS) and the National Ecology Center.
