ANGELES CITY – First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin described as “a dead elephant” the planned P813-million sports complex project pushed by the first-term mayor.

Irked by statements of Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno that his projects as when he was mayor like the market and slaughterhouse were “white elephants,” Lazatin said “the sports complex will mark the end of the Nepomuceno dynasty, the mayor will not be  re-elected because of it.”

“The sports complex will only be good initially for once a week and later once a month,” said Lazatin. He stressed that Nepomuceno should prioritize livelihood projects, education and health.

“Provide medicine and care to the poor and sick in public hospitals,” Lazatin told Nepomuceno.

But City Administrator Mark Allen Sison said it was Nepomuceno that “was able to pump prime their (market and slaughterhouse) useability and production, that’s why we call them ‘blue elephants.” Nepomuceno is also referred as “Blue” by his friends.

“That is Tarzan’s mess and we are the cleaners and miracle makers,” said Sison in a text message.

In interviews with mediamen and in his speeches, Nepomuceno branded as “white elephants” the P187-million San Nicolas Public Market (SNPM) and the P40-million slaugtherhouse in Barangay Pampang. Both were completed by Lazatin when he was mayor.

“How could they be white elephants when they are being used today? They even leased portions of San Nicolas to a private firm at the expense of legitimate owners,” said Lazatin, referring to the graft case filed by a certain Rodan Castro of this city against Nepomuceno in connection with the alleged illegal take-over of his stalls at the public market.

“No need to mention that the slaughterhouse was rented out to a firm being complained of late. They are even earning from it,” added Lazatin.

Asked to comment about the statements of City Administrator Mark Allen Sison that he “is just envious (of the sports complex project,”  Lazatin said “I pity the people for they will suffer from debts caused by the mayor and his sports complex.”

Lazatin said Nepomuceno had replaced his name at the San Nicolas public market put his name showing that the market “is  viable.”
