3rd District Rep. Rosanna Vergara said law enforcers are having a hard time working against riding in-tandem criminals because of legal implications and shortage of policemen.
In this city, she said, the local government led by Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara, has been providing CCTVs on strategic places.
But the people in the barangays, the solon said, should themselves cooperate by alerting for instance authority on movements of unidentified people in the places.
“Unfortunately, itong riding in-tandem remains prevalent,” Vergara said.
The congresswoman, meanwhile, sought a fulldressed investigation that will result to resolution to the string of killings in the province, including the recent assassination by riding in-tandem of Fr. Marcelito Paez and Mary Anne Hernandez.
Paez, 72, resident of Bahay Pari, Sto. Domingo town, a retired parish priest of the Diocese of San Jose, was shot dead by two pairs of motorcycle riding in-tandem suspects in Jaen town after bringing in threatened suspected rebel Rommel Tucay to safety.
Hernandez, 38, of Barangay Pag-asa, Talavera town on the other hand, died of multiple gunshot wounds from a .45 pistol in the company of her husband and two young children while gassing up their SUV in Talavera on their way home from Baguio City.
Vergara acknowledged the shortage of police forces, citing this city which daytime population is estimated at a million is way below the police-to-population ratio.
“Kulang na kulang ang pulis,” she said.
But Vergara said previous killings such as those of barangay captains Roger Pascual of Camp Tinio and Cesar Baltazar of Gen.
Luna, both of this city and broadcaster Julius Caesar Cauzo, among others, should be further investigated and solved.
“Kahit nakaraan na, kailangan pa ring tingnan bakit ganon. Wala pang war on drugs, patayan na nang patayan so hindi dapat sila nakakalimutan,” she said adding a House Resolution has been fi led in connection with these previous cases.
