CABANATUAN CITY – The supporters of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo remain upbeat on seeing her debating with former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
Movers of Robredo People’s Council (RPC) Nueva Ecija Chapter also belittled Marcos’ current high survey ratings as they recalled the 2016 vice presidential race.
Lawyer Joel Santos said there has been “a lot of conversion stories” of people who shifted sympathy to Robredo as a result of the recent media interviews.
“Excited na excited po kami talaga, lalo na para sa Comelec(Commission on Elections) debate,” Santos, a private practitioner, said. “Gustong gusto naming maka one-on-one ng aming minamahal na VP Leni ang frontrunner na sinasabi nila,” adding that the previous fora “proved Robredo’s mettle over the others.”
Women’s rights advocates Jessica Soto said while debates and interviews would not work for “blind, blind followers” they can “make resolve for the undecided section of the electorate.”
RPC-NE co-convenors Dindo Berino and Reynato Arimbuyutan said that the present survey ratings cannot withstand the “overflowing support of the common tao to Robredo’s favor.”
“Yung survey ay ginagsmit po natin sa ating mga pagkilos bagama’t yung mga common survey ay tahasan po nating hindi pinaniniwalaan ‘yun,” Berino.said
Arimbuyutan for his part noted people from certain Nueva Ecija municipalities whose mayors appeared to be unsympathetic with their fight for Robredo have openly joined their ranks.
Among the multisectoral leaders who signed a manifesto of support for Robredo in a brief conference here, coinciding with the first day of campaign period, were Zatoichi Zapanta for farmers; Dana Nadnaden, indigenous peoples; Anastacio Gabriel, senior citizens; Mikee Mobo, LGBTQIA+; Michelle Marie Zambrano, youth; and Ladylane Carol Puducay, women.
Each sector explained why they support Robredo and what they expect from her.
After the signing, they joined more volunteers from different towns and cities of Nueva Ecija in a caravan and program at the Benigno S. Aquino Freedom Park in this city.
As one, they declared a stepped-up campaign to “bring VP Leni to Malacañang.”
