SAN JOSE CITY — The local government has allocated over P29-million to the blended learning program of the Department of Education for school year 2020-2021.
Mayor Mario Salvador said on Monday the amount will be used in procuring equipment and internet connection to ensure that learning is affordable to some 40,000 school children in this city.
“Kasama na riyan ang mga laptop para sa mga teacher at lahat ng estudyante ay bibigyan ng USB,” Salvador said.
Based on a meeting with city DepEd officials such USBs will contain weekly lectures and activities of students, Salvador said.
Beside laptops for teachers and USBs for students, the city government will also finance the procurement of Riso, the advanced-type of photocopying equipment, for mass production of learning materials. This enables DepEd to implement both on-line and modular type of learning.
“Pati ink at mga papel ay bibilhin natin,” he said, saying it’s the DepEd that prepared the list of required materials and equipment.
The blended learning system is being pushed by the DepEd to continue the learning process amid the country’s battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The allocation, sourced from realigned budget of the special education fund also includes provision for hiring of additional teachers.
