SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—In order to raise the cultural awareness of the youth, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is currently developing a mobile application which will have video games, quizzes and others that would excite the young generation.
It is “a work in progress,” NCCA Chair Felipe de Leon Jr. said. “Heightening the creative industry is also promoting this area to other countries that would generate livelihood.” At present, the NCCA has e-books downloadable on their website -www.ncca.gov.ph, that tackles the prehistory, peoples, and ethnicity differentiation of the Philippines.
A mobile application or app for short is an application software designed to run on smart phones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. Meanwhile, De Leon announced an open invitation to the people of
Central Luzon particularly those from Zambales to join the 6th Taboan Philippine Writers Festival which is set from February 24-26 in this freeport.
“Taboan,” which means the marketplace in Bisaya, seeks to serve as an avenue for the academic exchange of ideas among the country’s writers that will help hone their respective crafts and address issues currently affecting their field,” de Leon explained.
Carrying the theme “Winds and Waves, Wars and Words,” the three-day gathering features forums, lectures, a book fair, literary reading, performances, arts and crafts exhibits, cultural tours and other satellite projects.
The topics that will be discussed include Sagip Kabataan: Using Literature in Disaster Areas, The Natural Life of the World: Translation and Preservation, Utopia and Histopia: Imagining the Future, Saved by the Web: Using the Internet to Revive Local Literature, and Keeping Afloat: Ang Pagsusulat bilang Hanapbuhay.
The highlight of the event is the awarding of outstanding writers across the archipelago. “Taboan serves as one of the main activities of the Philippine Arts Festival (PAF) which is an annual event celebrated every February in time for the National Arts Month,” de Leon said further.
PAF highlights Filipino ingenuity in architecture, cinema, dance, literature, music, dramatic arts, and visual arts.
This year, the festival is anchored on the theme “Art on the Edge” which focuses on art for healing activities and promoting the advancements achieved in different art forms including innovations, modern evolution of art, and the artistic creations in the peripheries.
