    NEW CLARK CITY, Tarlac — National athletes and government officials visited Friday the ongoing construction of sports facilities in New Clark City in preparation for the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019.

    Bases Conversion and Development Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio B. Dizonsaid facilities in the area include a 20,000 seating capacity Athletic Stadium, 2,000 seating capacity Aquatics Center, and an Athletes’ Village.

    “The Athletic Stadium was inspired by the caldera or crater of Mount Pinatubo and the contours of the surrounding Sierra Madre ranges,” Dizon noted.

    He stressed that what makes the design iconic was the variety of textures, golden colors and organic lahar material of the concrete take from the identity of the site.

    “Aquatics Center, on the other hand, took inspiration from the Philippines’ archipelagic lifestyle: Capiz shells inspired roof structure while the structural framing mimics the weaving patterns of baklad or woven fish nets,” he explained.

    And lastly, the Athletes’ Village has a total of 525 units wherein 95 of which are specifically intended for Persons with Disabilities.

    It likewise has an amenities gym, library and conference rooms in each floor, kitchen and dining area, basketball court, swimming pool and deck gardens.
