ANGELES CITY – The country’s top telecommunications company has signified its support to the education summit spearheaded by First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin on June 23 at the Hotel Stotsenberg Hotel in Clark.
In a recent roundtable talk with provincial reporters, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and Smart Chairman and CEO Manny Pangilinan said “we are supportive” of various projects that will improve the country’s education system as part of our corporate social responsibility.
“But the private sector and businessmen could not raise all the funds the country needs for education projects like building new classrooms. We need the help of firms from abroad,” Pangilinan said.
He advised the national government to ask for international aid to raise the needed funds.
He also described as “daunting” the country’s problem on providing quality education.
Pangilinan and heads of other prominent firms in the country earlier met with Education Sec. Armin Luistro and spoke about the need to produce at least P7 billion for the construction of public elementary and high school in the country.
For his part, Lazatin disclosed that his sister, Vicky Lazatin-Angeles, and groups of Pampanga traders also vowed to support the summit.
Mayor Ed Pamintuan earlier said that he will invite business groups and top traders, including Reghis Romero II of this city, to attend the summit.
