DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – Suspect in the alleged rape and murder of a woman missing for three days voluntarily surrendered to the police Monday afternoon in Morong, Bataan because of a “bothered conscience.”

Supt. Enrico Vargas, Dinalupihan police chief, said Marlon Malit, 31, a beach resort caretaker in Morong, surrendered and admitted having killed on Saturday night Mary Ann Carpio, 31, of barangay Tipo, Hermosa, Bataan.

“Sinakal ko siya dahil nagdilim ang paningin ko nang matapos ko siyang hubaran ng damit pang-ibaba ay kinagat niya ako sa tainga,” Malit said. But suspect repeatedly denied that he raped the woman.

“Nakokonsensiya ako sa nagawa ko kaya sumuko ako sa tulong ng aking ina. Humihingi ako ng tawad sa kanya at sa kanyang mga kaanak at handa kong tanggapin kung ano ang gusto nila,” suspect said after his inquest at the Bataan prosecutors’ office in Balanga City Tuesday afternoon.

Vargas said they will file a complaint for rape once the Bataan Crime Laboratory releases its finding through an autopsy report.

Malit said after taking too much liquor beginning 9:00 a.m. of Saturday, he saw Carpio allegedly seated with a group having a drinking spree near the checkpoint in barangay Tipo at about 10:00 p.m. He said he could not remember what the woman was doing.

After joining the group shortly, suspect said he invited victim for some snacks. He said it was the first time he met the woman.

Instead of looking for food, suspect said he brought Mary Ann to an abandoned small concrete house in barangay Bangal, Dinalupihan. Suspect is from Bangal, a neighboring village of Tipo.

Emilia Carpio said her daughter Mary Ann left their house in Tipo in the morning of Friday to gather plastics and other scraps for sale to junkshop. Victim since then did not return to their house until her almost naked body was discovered Monday morning.
