1950 marker on Cabu Bridge
CABANATUAN CITY – Motorists and netizens have expressed dismay over the alleged failure of the Department of Public Works and Highways to fix the damage on Cabu Bridge even as its detour has been impassable to trucks since May 21, 2022.
“Band-aid solution. Sa tagal ng sira niyan kung seryosong ginawa yan di na sana kung saan-saan pa dadaan yung mga sasakyan,” said a certain Rufino referring to the attempt of DPWH’s 2nd Nueva Ecija Engineering District to rehabilitate the detour that was washed out when rains poured in May.
“Palitan ang DPWH (officials) dyan sa Nueva Ecija pabalik-balik lang ang gawa. Back job nangyayari, perwisyo sa motorista,” said one Jhun in a social media comment.
Cabu Bridge, established in 1950, was damaged and initially closed to traffic in 2019, thus the detour on its side. It was opened after a series of retrofitting works but was closed to large vehicles whose height is 2.7 meters and above.
The bridge links this city to Palayan City, the municipalities of Laur, Bongabon, Gabaldon in Nueva Ecija, and Dingalan of Aurora province.
The media tried but failed to get comments from DPWH’s 2nd NEED. An insider, however, said plans are now on the drawing table in an effort to address the problem.
No one was working at the site, with a DPWH equipment unattended on June 2.
“Di lang yan ang sira, pati hi-way namin sira narin sa mga dambuhalang mga truck nayan,” another netizen said.
